Nonprofits and Business Cover Joseph J. Cordes is director of the School of Public Policy and Public Administration and professor of economics, public policy and public administration, and international affairs. His academic specialization is in public economics and policy analysis. An associate scholar in the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute, he is the coeditor of the Encyclopedia of Taxation and Policy, 2nd edition, and Democracy, Social Values, and Public Policy. He has also authored or coauthored numerous articles and chapters in books on tax policy, the economics of nonprofit organizations, government regulation, and government spending. With Evelyn Brody, he contributed a chapter to Nonprofits and Government: Collaboration and Conflict, published in 2006.

 

C. Eugene Steuerle is the vice president of the Peter J. Peterson Foundation and a former codirector of the Urban–Brookings Tax Policy Center. He is also the author, editor, or coeditor of 15 books and hundreds of articles, columns, testimonies, and reports. His latest book is the second edition of Contemporary U.S. Tax Policy. Through his column, The Government We Deserve, he shares his extensive knowledge of issues concerning the federal budget, taxes, retirement security, health, and other areas of public finance. Among many positions, he has served as deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for Tax Analysis, president of the National Tax Association, chair of the 1999 Technical Panel advising Social Security on its methods and assumptions. Between 1984 and 1986, he served as the economic coordinator and original organizer of the Treasury’s tax reform effort.
