As food and grocery prices increase, so do reports of food insecurity among Americans nationwide. Poonam Gupta, a social safety net expert at the Urban Institute, told CBS News MoneyWatch that even though the pace of inflation has declined since 2022, food insecurity is likely rising because prices are higher than before the pandemic: “Even though inflation slowed a lot this year, we're nowhere near the amount that we were spending on food even just a couple of years ago,” she said.
